To supply, install and commission a new induction loop, automatic doors, access control, IP CCTV & provisional wiring to the single door leading into the communal lounge to provide a future proofed access control solution.

Simone Gardens is owned by Nottingham City Council and operated by their Arm’s Length Management Organisation Nottingham City Homes. Simon Gardens comprises 36 flats, bungalows and cottages. Simon Gardens was built in 1970 and renovated in 2019.
There are various facilities throughout the complex including a lift, communal lounge, laundry and a garden. Ensuring their clients are supported at all time Nottingham City Homes offers the support of on site management staff (Independent Living Co-ordinators) and a Careline alarm service throughout the residences and communal facilities. Regular Social Activities include a Bingo afternoon, tea dances and coffee mornings which all residents are encouraged to take part in regardless of age or ability.
Simon Gardens is fully accessible by wheelchair, and this is supported throughout with the installation of Automatic Door systems and access control. TIS were successfully awarded the contract through the Principal Contractor (Engie) completing the refurbishment programme. We operated in harmony with Engie, meeting their requirements, flexing to their programme of works and meeting their deadlines to ensure residents were not affected beyond a reasonable length of time.
Prior to the commencement of works, TIS Key Account Project Manager, Mark, met with Nottingham City Homes and Engie to conduct several site surveys, discussing the options available to Nottingham City Homes due to the “blank slate” offered by the refurbishment programme. Working closely with Nottingham City Homes and Engie, Mark identified several areas for improvement at relatively low cost in comparison to the rest of the refurbishment works agreed. Working with our Auto Doors Division Mark, supported Nottingham City Homes and Engie to determine which doors would be suited to automation, maintain disability egress routes and provide suitable safety / emergency routes in the event of an emergency in the future.
Listening to the needs of Nottingham City Homes, and identifying the needs of the residents meant that we considered not only the exact requirements now, but also thought ahead to the future and supported our client to include future proofed options. We met with residents through a tenant forum to address concerns and identify project timescales. We also took the opportunity to reassure them that works would not impact on their private enjoyment of their home or the beautifully kept grounds surrounding them.
Operating in harmony with our own ISO 14001:2015 Environmental Management System and supporting Nottingham City Homes to reduce their carbon footprint and energy usage, we installed low energy automatic doors.
The low energy doors have been installed and automated via a RECORD DFA 127 swing unit operated via access control externally and a PTE button internally, locking to be via 2No recessed maglocks housed in a purpose-built box section/angle. 1pair of flat scan safety sensors were also installed to the opening and closing face of the doors. Once installed the doors were commissioned to BSEN 16005 requirements, with all relevant signage fitted.
The new CCTV system at Simone Gardens is a fully IP Networked system, meaning that the cameras are integrated throughout the building via high speed data cabling (CAT5) and connected back to a viewing station monitored by the Independent Living Coordinators on site. 16 High Definition cameras have been installed to offer maximum coverage of the site while complying fully with the General Data Protection Regulation (2018). The CCTV cameras chosen were vandal resistant to offer durability of components to Nottingham City Homes, also mitigating the impact of vandalism and reducing the likelihood of damage to the system, safety concerns and the costly impact of downtime.
To reduce the risk of damage to the external cabling between buildings, our engineers ensured the cables were carefully run over catenary wires linking outer buildings and then run neatly through loft spaces. Working in confined spaces and at height proposed a significant risk to our engineers, however our strict health and safety measures reduced the risks and maintained site safety.
Considering risks our Key Account Project Manager, Mark, reviewed the risks of works to be completed by us, the site risks (including asbestos and working in confined spaces) and the risks associated with working simultaneously with other trades on site.
Mark generated bespoke method statements for the various works at Simone Gardens, identifying the risks through detailed risks assessments and mitigating the impact of these risks through careful selection of work instructions for our engineering teams to ensure their safety and that of others at all times.
Working in harmony with Engie, we operated in association with their requirements for a full site induction prior to commencement and for all personnel to sign in and out of site at all times. Our engineers are issued with PPE and are required to wear it as standard, anyone found to be in contravention of our requirements are asked to leave site until they have the correct protective equipment, this requirement is particularly important on a live construction site where multiple trades are in occupation of the site at the same time, due diligence and care is required to ensure the safety of not only our engineers but all those on site.
Due to our stringent health and safety expectations on sites of this nature, TIS have subsequently developed a strong working partnership with Engie and Nottingham City Homes. We continue to enjoy a mutually beneficial partnership, one which has no doubt played a part in Nottingham City Homes being awarded the highly coveted Landlord of the Year award.
