There are 116 universities in the UK and 166 higher educational institutions providing education for just under a half a million students. The oldest is Oxford founded in 1167 closely followed by Cambridge in 1209.
Within the top ten are University of Manchester, University of Leeds, University of Nottingham and Sheffield Hallam.
TIS are proud to be associated with these top universities, amongst others, in providing fire and security systems and services. With decades of experience and as one of the UK’s leading independent Fire, Security and Communication specialists we are ideally placed to provide consultation, design, supply and installation of a single or, where we excel, a totally integrated site system. We keep abreast of the latest technology to provide the most up to date equipment and systems available always with an eye to value engineering.
Each university throws up their own challenges with some having campuses being spread across a county, also the logistics of working around students and staff, paying particular attention to their safety. TIS are well experienced in this type of work and coping with these challenges and we were awarded a recommendation for our compliance with Health and Safety whilst working at the University of Leeds.
Five years ago at University of Leeds TIS installed a new Security Control Centre and site wide IP based CCTV system comprising of 70 cameras initially which has now expanded to over 200. The installation meant providing a temporary control centre whilst the new room was built. TIS worked very closely with the university IT and engineering departments and completed the project on time and on budget. Recently, due to the new library development, we were asked to build a completely new control centre in an alternative location.
We have since been awarded contracts by the university to provide access control, locking and barrier systems, the supply, installation and commissioning of fire and security systems for the new Halls of Residence, the new Under Graduates Library, Geography department relocation, Social Sciences refurbishment and operating a site wide service and maintenance contract.
At the University of Nottingham we are currently in year 2 of a 3 year tendered contract to provide pre planned and reactive service and maintenance of the CCTV system, Intruder system and Emergency lighting across all University of Nottingham campuses.
The CCTV system is a fully IP integrated system consisting of 367 cameras. The intruder detection systems consist of over 200 independent systems whilst we look after over 1700 luminaries for the emergency lighting element.
At Manchester University we have just completed phase 1 installation of a virtual network Access control system covering 170 doors.
At Sheffield Hallam University IP CCTV is what the majority of the work undertaken by TIS consists of. We are currently installing a new 33 IP camera CCTV system and a new intruder alarm system at an existing university building which is being refurbished.
We have recently been approached by a major London University to provide consultation on the rationalisation and upgrade of CCTV, Security, Access Control and Communication systems
TIS work nationally also providing consultation, systems installation and service and maintenance to higher education colleges and schools
